Do You Appreciate Suncream?

Suncream is a cosmetic that every girl has. Suncream retards the aging process, obstructs the risk of cancer because of long-term sunlight exposure. However, you should not use suncream if you do not appreciate it. Let us discover what suncream has inside.

UVA & UVB, two harmful Ultraviolet Light

UVA is ultraviolet radiation between 400-320nm wavelength and UVB is between 320-290nm wavelength. The shorter the wavelength, the higher the energy of radiation. Therefore, UVB, which is strong from 10a.m to 4p.m, makes your skin brunt or tanned. With long wavelength and all-day strength, UVA damage your skin silently and cause wrinkles and freckles.

SPF or Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of how long a sunscreen protects our skin from UVB rays. 1SPF = 15-minute protection but it does not mean a higher one could protect more time.

PA means Protection Grade of UVA rays, which is often leveled as PA+, PA++, PA+++ with the more plus sign the more protection from UVA rays.

  • PA+: UVA protection intensity of suncream is two times higher (40-50%) than PA.
  • PA++: UVA protection intensity of suncream is four times higher (60-70%) than PA.
  • PA+++: UVA protection intensity of suncream is eight times higher (90%) than PA.

 Differences Between Sunscreen And Sunblock

Sunscreen (or chemical suncream) filters most of UV from sunlight out of your skin. It is usually liquid like lotion and contains ingredients that could filter UV but miss other rays. Moreover, the biggest defect of sunscreen is not effective after two hours so you should apply it every that amount of time.

Sunblock (or physical suncream) is thicker and more condensed than sunscreen. It usually contains Zinc Oxide (ZnO) or Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), that effectively prevent sunlight from damaging your skin. It is highly recommended for people who are sensitive to UV. But the weakness is sunblock’s condensation and thickness, you may find it hard to apply it into your skin and your skin will look unnatural.

Some Tips

  • Choose the proper suncream: depends on your skin type, sun-exposure duration,…
  • Apply suncream 30 minutes before going out: 30 minutes is enough time for suncream to promote its best efficiency.

Hope you enjoy your days with the sun.
